Gambling in Germany will change – What are the effects on BTC Casinos?

A pipe dream for many gambling providers in Germany: the legal offer in Germany. Is that actually possible from July 2021? The changes have it in themselves, not only for providers, but also for players! Will  btc gambling providers still be interesting for those players?

Is the new gambling treaty a win at all?

btc gamblingMany people appreciate it very much in their spare time slots and Co. for their entertainment and the one or other nice profit to use. But the federal government is eagerly discussing the matter. So far, no law has been passed, but casino operators and players are skeptical about what the new State Treaty on Gambling will bring at all.

Until now, gambling in Germany was possible in online casinos, because they had their license in the EU, preferably in Malta. The German State Treaty on Gambling ensures legalization, but not all games are included.

No longer permitted would be, according to the new law, all games in which an employee is responsible for the issuance of cards. All games that start with the words “Rien ne vas plus” (Nothing works anymore) will also fall under the ban. This would mean a renunciation of the classics like roulette, baccarat or even blackjack. The situation is different for video poker, where no employee is present.

A relevant change is also planned for slots. Thus, the minimum duration for a game round must be 5 seconds and must be clearly confirmed by the player beforehand. Quick game rounds would thus be impossible. In addition, according to the new law, players are no longer allowed to play on several slots at the same time.

Restrictions for players

  • The purpose of a new gambling law is to protect players. Thus, one of the changes is that a maximum of 1000 euros may be deposited per month. This is for the protection of players. Bonuses, on the other hand, are not regulated by the government changes, which is the case in many other countries.
  • In many countries, the number of bonuses is capped because the more bonuses there are, the more often a player will want to gamble.
  • There is also a different handle in Germany regarding advertising. In most countries, gambling advertising is not allowed in order to regulate the growth of new players. Germany, on the other hand, does not want to regulate here and allow advertising for casinos.

The difficulties of the new State Treaty on Gambling

Experts see difficulties in the implementation of the new treaty. For example, the deposit limit does not apply per casino, but in total. But how is this to be reliably checked? The creation of a central file would be required, which can be accessed by every online casino. But is that compatible with data protection?

A similar problem arises with voluntary self-locking. This is intended to prevent a player from continuing to play. But for the function to actually make sense, this self-lock would also have to apply to all casinos. Access by all online casinos is also required here in order to implement the State Treaty on Gaming correctly.

It remains to be seen how the federal government will actually decide and which draft law will be implemented. As long as the federal and state governments are still discussing, casino operators are also left to speculate. And the players? Here, too, there are split opinions and it will be interesting to see how the new changes affect gaming behavior.
